With a more sinister but very muscular appearance, the Black Horse Mustang was one of the brand’s surprises in introducing the new generation of this model. It is the most powerful and suitable choice for road or racetrack use.
The new Ford Mustang was presented without huge surprises, other than meeting the seventh generation of what is considered one of the most ridiculous models of the blue oval marque. But when it all seemed to be coming to an end, just as the entire audience was about to throw money onto the stage for one of the new models, Ford revealed it still had one more surprise.
Ford Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ is a new name for this model, which defines the most radical and daring option in the range. In previous generations, the brand left that mission to the likes of Shelby and others, but now, why not let the engineers at Ford Performance show what they’ve been developing over the past three years.
The new Dark Horse features a five-liter Coyote V8 with 500 horsepower, rear-wheel drive and a Tremec manual gearbox, although a ten-speed automatic is available as an option. The braking system is more powerful and has a Brembo signature, the MagneRide suspension provides more controlled body movements and to connect everything to the ground, the Pirelli Trofeo set of 19-inch wheels was chosen.
On board, the Mustang Dark Horse includes everything a Mustang GT already includes, although there is a greater concern about weight reduction, which dispenses with some insulation, and with the Driving Position, which is intended to leave the driver more focused on the moment. Already in the chassis, the Dark Horse is recognized with its own badge and a more sporty look than the Mustang GT, which makes this model so sporty that, after all, there is still one more surprise …
In a completely clandestine manner, and with the development of the new Mustang, Ford took the opportunity to create new competition versions of this model, based on the Dark Horse S and Dark Horse R, that would be able to compete in categories such as GT3, GT4, Supercars Championship, NHRA Factory X and even NASCAR Cup Series.
