ShAn Israeli army spokesman said on Wednesday that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is hiding underground and that the IDF’s mission is to “find and kill Sinwar.”
Over the past two days, Israeli forces have pushed deeper into Khan Yunis, Sinwar’s hometown, increasing focus on the Hamas leader who is seen as the mastermind of the October 7 attack in southern Israel. Al-Sanwar grew up in a refugee camp in Khan Yunis.
It should be remembered that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that forces were “surrounding Sinwar’s home,” adding that “he may escape, but it is only a matter of time before we catch him.”
When later asked if this meant that forces were approaching Sinwar’s home, as some media reported, IDF spokesman Admiral Daniel Hajari said: “Sinwar’s home is the Khan Yunis area.”
“Sinwar is not above ground, it is underground. I do not want to explain where, how and what we know, for the sake of classified information. This is not the place to talk about these things. Our mission is to find Sinwar and kill him,” Hajri added.
It should be remembered that the Israeli armed forces repeated their warnings to evacuate the city of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, on Monday, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have moved in recent weeks, as the ground offensive intensifies.
Residents told AFP that they heard air strikes and explosions in Khan Yunis on Sunday night and Monday morning, after the Israeli army dropped leaflets warning people against moving south towards the border with Egypt.
