Adobe announced Tuesday that Creative Cloud subscriptions will now include Frame.io, its software designed to collaborate on video projects. The company is developing the software on the latest versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects, which has some updates of its own, the company has made a visual upgrade of its video editing software, and its compositing software will finally be native to Apple Silicon.
Adobe bought Frame.io last year, so including the service in your video editing subscription makes sense. Frame.io makes collaboration easy for remote editors, allowing them to quickly download captured images or audio in group or on-site and easily share draft edits for comment or approval. A Frame.io subscription included with Creative Cloud gives users 100GB of cloud storage that can be used to share media files with a contributor.
As it bundles Frame.io with Creative Cloud, Adobe is also integrating it into new versions of Premiere and After Effects. Users will be able to sign in to the service with their Adobe IDs and start using it in their editing software without having to install a separate plug-in.
Besides the Frame.io integration, Adobe has also redesigned some aspects of Premiere Pro, changing the import and export screens to make navigation easier and more visually satisfying. Although the update does not bring any major changes in functionality, it should be a breath of fresh air for people who spend the whole day on the software. “Premiere has been around for a very long time, and any new UI outside of the loading screen when you launch it is exciting.”
Adobe has also added automatic color correction to Premiere, which can come in handy for new creators. He calls the Auto Color feature and says it can work as a “first pass,” adding a Lumetri effect to your clip and adjusting the sliders where it thinks they should be.
Adobe also announced that the latest version of After Effects, which begins rolling out on Tuesday, will be three times faster on Macs in the M1 family, thanks to native support from Apple Silicon.
Compositing software also gets some quality of life improvements, when using 3D draft you can see what 2D or 3D layers look like outside the frame. It’s getting scene editing detection in Premiere, which will allow you to automatically insert and split a video into a new layer whenever there’s a cut.
