Sh189 German tourists suffered moments of panic after being trapped inside a plane with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. The flight from Antalya to Münster was operated by Mavi Gok Airlines.
Passengers were surprised by a technical problem when the air conditioning system on the Boeing 737-800 failed before take-off. Bild newspaper revealed that the incident on June 6 has only now become public.
Passenger Dominic says: “When we boarded the plane, we immediately noticed that it was hot inside the plane. The air conditioning was not working and the plane sat on the runway in the heat for about an hour. The thermometer reached a horrific 52 degrees.” Jansen, explaining that the situation has become particularly difficult for children.
Nancy Jansen added: “The children were getting louder and louder, and they were all crying. The situation was very dangerous. Everyone was terrified for their children, and panic spread.”
A Turkish doctor approached the crew, warning that the children’s lives were at risk from exposure to extremely high temperatures.
The pilot even started heading towards the runway to take off, but in the end he decided to return to the airport terminal.
According to passenger reports, Bild newspaper reported that the airline did not provide “any assistance,” such as “water or food.”
Meanwhile, Mavi Gok Airlines issued a statement stressing that “the safety and well-being of passengers and crew is the main priority” and also promised to “work with the relevant authorities to avoid such incidents in the future.”
With a four-hour delay on a different plane, these passengers’ traumatic adventure ended without incident.
