IPictures of Professor Daniel Mendiola, from Peru, spread on social media. The teacher was filmed assaulting a student who allegedly bullied a classmate at San Felipe 120 School in Piura (Peru).
Daniel Mendiola was fired but eventually acquitted and can now return to teaching.
“I thank the directors of this honoring institution for understanding my situation and achieving justice, as I did. I hope this sets a precedent for everyone to know that we can still change, because everyone knows that being a teacher is not just about filling out notebooks, but also teaching and cultivating true values,” he wrote Mendula on social media.
Before the decision, the professor had already said that he was aware that he would be expelled. However, he claimed that he could not continue to witness the abuse and injustice inflicted on a “defenseless person”.
The teacher, who was seen hitting the student with a belt in the middle of class, ended up being defended by several parents whom he thanked for their support.
According to ABC, the student in question was eventually suspended.
The school principal said, “We will not tolerate bullying or mistreatment among students. Our duty is to educate and not allow this kind of abuse.”
