noIn the video, a seven-year-old boy can be seen crying while being beaten in turn by his classmates at the instigation of a teacher in an educational center in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Teacher Trapta Tyagi’s voice can be heard in the video with phrases such as: “I already said that all Muslim children should leave” or “Why are you hitting like this? Strike harder. Whose turn now?”
The video will be recorded by an unknown man from Muzaffarnagar district, who replies to the teacher: “You are right [estas crianças muçulmanas] They destroy education.”
The incident was a punishment for the young Muslim student for not learning the multiplication table, according to Muzaffarnagar Police Superintendent Satyanarayan Prajapat.
“We investigated and found that the woman mentioned in the video that Muslim students are spoiled by their mothers and do not care about their studies,” the official said in a statement.
Spanish news agency EFE reported that the police had already filed a complaint against the teacher.
According to statements collected by the Indian Express, at first, the victim’s father said his son would stop attending school, but would not file a complaint.
This event sparked a wave of discontent in the Asian country, where politicians and citizens denounced what happened in Muzaffarnagar, and talked about the growing climate of hatred against minorities, especially against Muslims who represent about 15% of India’s population.
“They are poisoning innocent children with the poison of discrimination,” said Rahul, a politician from the opposition Congress party. “They are turning a sacred place like a school into a place of hate.
