Covid-19 infection can present with dozens of different symptoms, from the most common, such as fatigue, headache, sore throat or cough, to the rarest and strangest, such as “Covid tongue” (swollen and discolored tongue). mouth problems). Now, a new study from the ZOE Health Study indicates that the symptoms experienced by Covid-19 patients may vary depending on the type of vaccination they received.
The project, which includes health sciences firm ZOE and researchers from King’s College London, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard and Stanford universities, analyzed data on symptoms that affected more than four million people who used the ZOE Covid Study app. This “application” records symptoms of infection with the Coronavirus, through data entered by users since 2020.
Now, the ZOE Health study has updated a list of the most common symptoms of Covid-19 and found that they differ in three vaccination groups: patients who completed the basic vaccination schedule, those who received only one dose of the vaccine and those who were not vaccinated.
Patients who completed the platform:
1- sore throat
2 – runny nose
3 – stuffy nose
4 – persistent cough
5- headache
Patients receiving only one dose of the vaccine:
1- headache
2 – runny nose
3 – Sore throat
4 – sneezing
5- Persistent cough
Unvaccinated patients:
1- headache
2- Sore throat
3 – runny nose
4 – fever
5- Persistent cough
Four of the five most common symptoms include sore throat, runny nose, cough, and headache, which have been reported to be common among the three groups, but their prevalence varies. People who had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 more often reported feeling feverish, which was not the case in the other two groups analyzed.
The study found that vaccination status was also associated with the number of symptoms patients had at one time. Those who received all vaccinations or just one dose reported fewer symptoms, which lasted for a “shorter period of time”.
A 2021 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that participants who received one or two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine had a 60% lower risk of developing symptoms such as fever, compared to the unvaccinated. Vaccinated patients spend, on average, two to six sick days less than those who have not been vaccinated.
The new ZOE study also points to a curious fact: a decrease in the “traditional” symptoms of the initial variant of Covid-19: such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, loss of sense of smell and/or taste. At stake, according to the investigation, will be the prevalence of Omicron sub variants, which cause these symptoms less frequently.
