A new official portrait of King Charles III was unveiled on Monday (15.01). Dressed in Royal Navy uniform, the record was hung in public buildings across the UK under an £8 million government-funded scheme.
The photograph of the monarch in full regalia inside Windsor Castle was taken last year by Hugo Burnand, who took the coronation portraits of the King and Queen and the 2005 wedding photographs.
Many public institutions have displayed official portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and “the presentation of a new official portrait of King Charles III will enable institutions across the UK to continue this tradition,” the Cabinet Office said.
The official portrait depicts the king in his Royal Navy uniform as an admiral of the fleet, his right hand resting on an antique table with white gloves and his left hand holding a sword. He stands in the great hall of the royal palace.
