This new approach introduces critical biosafety controls for European Union (EU) products, using a global model based on risk, data and technology, reducing friction and costs for companies and consumers, as well as facilitating and creating transport. Goods at the UK border are safe.
The implementation of the regime will be carried out gradually taking into account three key moments:
· – January 31, 2024 – Introduction of health certification for imports of animal products, plants, plant products and high-risk food and non-animal food from the EU. Removal of pre-notification requirements for EU low-risk plants and plant products.
· – April 30, 2024 – Introducing risk-based physical and documentary identification tests on animal products, plants, plant products and high-risk food and food of non-animal origin from the EU. Current inspections of high-risk plants/plant products from the EU will move from destination to border control positions.
· – October 31, 2024 – Compulsory submission of S&S declarations (Safety and security notices) to import from the EU to the UK. At the same time, the system will come into effect UK Single Trade WindowThis will reduce the bureaucratic burden on imports and, as far as possible, avoid duplication in various pre-entry data such as pre-submitted customs declarations.
