A The giraffe born on March 14 at Chester Zoo in the United Kingdom is “a girl” and already has a name.
The zoo made the announcement last week and revealed that “Orla's new calf has a name.”
“Guys, I introduce you to Eddie”, read a post on the social network Facebook.
Giraffe is named after “Lake Edward in Uganda, one of Africa's great lakes”.
Eddy is “inspired by conservation efforts in Uganda,” where the zoo is working to “increase the numbers and protect giraffes in the wild.”
The moment Orla's calf was born was recorded on a video, which you can watch Here.
It's worth remembering that tens of thousands of Rothschild's giraffes, the tallest mammal subspecies in the world – only 2,500 of them exist in the wild – were once found in Kenya, Uganda and Sudan. 90% in recent years due to poaching and habitat loss.
The last major stronghold is now in Kenya and Uganda.
