Jurist and former spy Alexandre Guerrero is not part of the Center for Research in Public Law (CIDP) at the University of Lisbon Law School, although he has appeared on the social network LinkedIn as an “associate member” of the same centre. The College’s Scientific Council met on Friday to decide on its integration and that of other elements of the CIDP, but decided to postpone the discussion on Guerreiro’s entry. At the origin of the decision were the public positions of the former member of the Strategic Defense Information Service and the current commentator of SIC Notícias, who defended Russia’s position in the invasion of Ukraine.
Carlos Blanco de Moraes, head of the CIDP, told “Visão”, who revealed there were objections from members of the advisory board about incorporating Guerreiro into the body that sets guidelines for research into the law. According to Blanco de Maurier, it was decided to postpone the decision on the admission of the lawyer.
Last year, Alexander Guerrero in his doctoral thesis defended the legality of the annexation of Crimea by Russia, taking into account international law. On April 5, Alexandre Guerrero will present his thesis at a conference at the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Law.
