A Ryanair plane flying from Manchester to Dublin was forced to divert 1,000km to Paris after encountering strong winds from Storm Isha. The flight, which was originally scheduled to land at Dublin International Airport at around 3.30pm on Sunday 21 January, was already delayed by an hour when it left Manchester Airport.
But due to dangerous winds caused by Storm Isha, which reached speeds of 144 km/h in some areas, the plane was forced to circle over the Irish Sea several times before aborting landing and heading to Paris Beauvais Airport. 5:30 pm.
@declancreative Looking back at our 11 hours on a 35 minute flight. This was the moment we miscarried and ended up in Paris instead of Dublin! #Irish #storms #funted #stormisha #FR555 ♬ We will not succeed – Presidents of the United States of America
For BBCOne passenger described the experience of being on board as “riding a cowboy bull.” Due to strong winds, landing in Ireland was unsafe, forcing the plane to change its destination.
Several other flights were forced to divert to other airports due to winds caused by Storm Isha, and several other flights were canceled at UK airports, including Manchester.
When the plane finally landed at Paris Beauvais Airport, “everyone started applauding,” said passenger Declan Cassidy. As a filmmaker, Cassidy documented his long ordeal on TikTok. He filmed the moment the pilot announced the diversion and recorded the passengers' excitement as the flight, initially scheduled to last 35 minutes, landed in Dublin 11 hours after take-off.
