Then some protesters tried to attack the driver of the car.

The driver was arrested and taken to the police station.

Wednesday’s demonstrations, a public holiday in Brazil, followed mass protests of truck drivers allied with Bolsonarismo supporters, who since Monday have closed nearly 600 highways across the country in protest of Lula’s victory.

This Wednesday, according to the Highway Patrol, closures continued at about 150 points in 15 of the country’s 27 states, in many cases only partial, disrupting traffic but not stopping it completely.

In some places, such as the city of Barueri in São Paulo, roads have been cleaned with strict police intervention.As a result, the truck drivers dispersed with tear gas, but no clashes or injuries occurred.

Truckers’ protests began to subside after Bolsonaro admitted defeat and decided the government would start the transition process with Lula’s team, which is scheduled for Thursday.

Bolsonaro made a statement regarding the election result on Tuesday, about 45 hours after the official count condemned the progressive leader’s victory.

In a brief speech, he said that the protests came as a result of discontent and a sense of injustice over the way the electoral process was conducted.

He said that “peaceful demonstrations” were “welcome”, but stressed that his methods “could not be those of the left, which have always harmed the population”, and stressed that no one could prevent “the right to come and go”.
