Citing the Ukrainian embassy in Beirut, Politico said a buyer based in Lebanon rejected Ukrainian grain from the Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship “Razoni”, the first to leave Ukraine, on August 1.
“According to the shipper’s information, the final buyer in Lebanon refused to accept the shipment due to delays in delivery dates (more than 5 months)”Politico noted on Monday, citing a tweet from the embassy.
And the embassy tweet adds that “the shipper is now looking for another sender,” “it may be in Lebanon or in another country.”
“Razzoni” transports about 26,000 tons of corn and is currently in the Mediterranean near the Turkish coast, according to navigational data, according to Politico.
The Ukrainian embassy in Beirut could not immediately be reached for comment.
The Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship “Razzoni” was the first to set sail earlier this month under an agreement sponsored by the United Nations and Turkey that gives ships carrying grain safe passage to and from Ukrainian ports in the Odessa region.
Global food prices have risen since the Russian invasion, but have fallen slightly since the deal was announced last month.
So far, 10 ships have departed from the three ports of Ukraine on the Black Sea under the Black Sea Agreement.
