Sporting welcomed, in a statement, the Socialist Party’s proposed bill to change the system of work accidents in sport.
Here is the statement in full:
Sporting Club de Portugal is pleased to take note of the content of the draft law on compensation for damages caused by work accidents suffered by professional athletes, which was submitted to the Assembly of the Republic, with the aim of repealing Law No. 27/2011, 16 June.
This is an issue of critical importance for sports associations, which have been burdened with required insurance premiums.
In general, today’s proposal introduces a number of changes to the current system that are positive and a step in the right direction towards the necessary reform regarding occupational accidents in professional sport. This path will contribute to the always desired increase in the international competitiveness of Portuguese football and will continue to ensure the protection of professional athletes.
Sporting Clube de Portugal will follow the evolution of the legislative process and hope that the new system will become a reality as soon as possible.”
