Unilabs today confirmed to Lusa that there was a “problem” with the vaccine storage refrigerator at the Queimódromo Vaccination Center, in Porto, which was resolved as soon as it was discovered.
An official source from Unilabs said, “Unilabs confirms that a cold chain malfunction occurred at the Queimódromo vaccination center in Porto. The situation was immediately resolved as soon as it was discovered.”
For this reason, vaccination against covid-19 has been suspended in Queimódromo do Porto by coordinating the ‘working team’ and requesting an investigation from the General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS), which was announced today. Unilabs explained that “the problem occurred at the vaccine storage facility, and its cause has already been properly analyzed, both internally and externally, with mitigation measures in place and enhanced prevention of this occurrence.”
He added that the relevant health authorities have also been alerted to the vaccination process so that the necessary protocols can be applied to protect all users.
“At the moment, we have our teams in the field, with other partners at the Queimódromo Vaccination Center, operating from Saturday so that, if the health authorities and the Task-Force understand this, we can continue to support the country in the vaccination efforts,” The source concluded.
Earlier this morning, the coordinator of the “task force” for the Covid-19 vaccination plan said that there was “no risk to the health of people” who had been vaccinated in recent days at the center set up in Queimódromo.
