Mason Hollyman (Israel Cycling Academy) won the Senhora da Assunção and W52-FC Porto couldn’t cancel the breakout that lasted more than 10 minutes.
Briton Mason Holliman, 21, celebrated in the Senhora da Asuncao reserve, in Santo Tirso, the main victory of his career. On another day of unexpected twists, Rádio Popular-Boavista’s Daniel Freitas won the yellow jersey and the 5m10s beat Alejandro Marque, due to a breakthrough that the peloton couldn’t cancel.
A group of 17 runners have been quarantined when they’ve traveled just over 30km since Águeda and General-Tavira-Maria Nova Hotel Tuna, exhausted after Covid-19 pulled Emmanuel Duarte and David Livramento from the race, the advantage over 10 minutes.
Riccardo Mestre and Daniel Mestre, both from the W52-FC Porto, were at the forefront of the road, until it was realized that the escape would be worthy of the yellow jersey for best-ranked in the group, good-natured Daniel Freitas.
In the final phase, the Whites and the Blues were already chasing the group, but only to reduce the difference to just over five minutes. While Mason Hollyman was isolated from the rest of the fugitives and was the best at climbing Senhora da Assunção, Freitas was sixth on the stage and unexpectedly jumped to first place overall.
The Rádio Popular-Boavista sprinter now leads by 42 seconds over Alejandro Marque of Tavira and 47 seconds over Amaro Antunes, who remains the best in W52-FC Porto.
