The British government has made changes to the NHS app (the Portuguese equivalent of the NHS) to make it “less sensitive”, in another attempt to combat the “pandemic” occurring in England.
This was announced on Monday afternoon. According to The Independent, the CEO explained that the app will now only “drip” (notify) close contacts that occurred in the two days prior to a positive test, instead of the current five.
Some companies and some MPs demanded a reconsideration of the request after the significant impact of the isolation notices on various sectors of the economy.
“We want to limit the disruption that self-isolation can cause to the lives of individuals and businesses, while ensuring that we protect those most at risk from this virus. This app update will help ensure that the right balance is struck,” said Minister of State for Health Sajid Javid. It is very important that people self-isolate when notified, to prevent the spread of the virus and protect their community.”
The number of notifications in England and Wales hit a new record in the week ending July 21, when 689,313 notifications were sent, 70,000 more than the previous week.
With the surge in alerts or ‘votes’, the UK has faced a massive wave of absenteeism by employees from various sectors. For this reason, this phenomenon became known as “pingdemia”.
In the face of criticism and failures in basic services, the British government has replaced isolation with daily tests for workers in some sectors. But the strategy is far from simplistic and the problems still abound.
