Alpine driver Esteban Ocon claimed on Sunday the first victory of his Formula 1 career. The Frenchman took full advantage of the first lap confusion that affected some of the candidates.
Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) finished second, and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finished third. Ocon couldn’t be happy in the end and no wonder. He did a great job at the helm of the group, with help from another Alpine, Fernando Alonso, who is a bit behind (the Spaniard finished fifth), who stopped some attacks.
The Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday had a bewildering start. With Lewis Hamilton in front, Valtteri Bottas hit Lando Norris in the first corner, which in turn collided with the Red Bulls, and confusion ensued.
The race was stopped shortly thereafter, not because someone was injured, but to clean the track. Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, Charles Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas withdrew. Later on, Mazbein and Lando Norris also ended up leaving the race.
Max Verstappen – who lost the lead at Worlds – had the car left badly damaged, but he took it to the pit and the mechanics did what they could when the race came to a halt. The Red Bull driver is back in the track, but too late…
The 13 runners started the race from the pits at the start of the race, after changing their tires (the asphalt dried up in the meantime); Hamilton was the only one to leave the track. Soon, the Briton went to the “shoe” exchange and entered again …
However, Ocon took the lead and did not leave it. Hamilton was racing backwards and in the last laps he took last place on the podium.
Verstappen, with ‘fixing’ the car, finished 10th, added a point and lost the world championship lead to Hamilton.
