“One month ago, we successfully seized $ 114 million worth of cryptocurrencies. Since then, our investigation has been complex and extensive. […] Today’s bust is another significant milestone in this investigation, which will continue for months and we are focusing on the people at the center of this money laundering operation, ”said Detective Joe Ryan.

Illegal applications
Although considered “futures currencies”, cryptocurrencies have been heavily criticized for security reasons. Due to the permitted anonymity, ease of use and lack of a centralized controller, the assets have been used for various illegal activities such as corruption.
“The revenue from crime is released in many ways. As digital sites develop, we see more and more organized criminals using cryptocurrencies to swindle their ill-gotten money while money is the king of the criminal world,” said Assistant Commissioner Graham McNaldy.
Concerns have led many countries such as the United States and China to intensify their crackdown on cryptocurrencies – not to mention foreign factors such as energy and volatility. International law enforcement agencies are likely to be increasingly vigilant as the siege against digital assets grows around the world.
