The five-player free-to-play Pokémon Unite will arrive for the first time on the Nintendo Switch handheld hybrid, while the smartphone version will have to wait a little longer. The Unite team says a mobile release is planned for September, though cross-play between smartphones and the Nintendo Switch is being prepared.
Nintendo has already set a Pokémon Unite release date, so Nintendo Switch players can start fighting on the battlefield as early as next week, on July 21, 2021.
Signing in with a Pokémon Trainer Club or Nintedo account will allow you to access your game data on any device, which will allow for cross-progression as well. So, even though the platforms are not released simultaneously, data can be transferred at least when the smartphone and Switch versions are active.
Entering the Switch Edition on August 31st will earn you a free Zeraora character. The Electric-type Pokémon is fast and can deal massive damage, with its Unite (read: final) move sending a powerful blast, leaving an area of plasma around the site of impact.
Pokémon Unite is a MOBA-style setting in the Pokémon world, where you control and level up individual monsters, upgrade their abilities, and defeat opponents.
There are a lot of pocket monsters to play in the battlefield. The current programming on the site has a very good variety, ranging from the expected (Pikachu, Greninja) to some cool and unusual options (Cramorant Crew). And with a little cross-play and cross-advance progression, it’s good to know that Pokémon skins could carry over to the mobile version.
We’ll see how the Pokémon mode behaves in the Battle Arena next week when Pokémon Unite hits the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021, and it’s also expected to know when the mobile version will be available as it will unlock the game for more players.
