The UK is preparing to crack down on measures against illegal immigration. The executive, led by Boris Johnson, announced the new measures this Sunday and is imposing higher fines for traffic on humans.
For traffickers, the maximum applicable fine is life imprisonment. Currently, the maximum sentence used for this type of crime is 14 years. As for illegal immigrants, the United Kingdom is preparing to increase the sentence from six months to four years in prison.
The changes were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which, at this time, confirms that the country is recording records of attempts to cross the English Channel from France. The proposed changes are part of a plan to reform the British asylum system, which will be debated in parliament next Tuesday.
In the first six months of this year, authorities achieved a record number of small advanced boats attempting to cross the English Channel. From January to June at least six thousand people would have achieved this. If the pace continues, the total of 8400 recorded last year will be quickly surpassed.
