Warnings about Android apps that do a lot more than you might think are more, and the latest ones shouldn’t be ignored.
According to an investigation by Dr. Web, at least 9 apps available for free download from the Google Play Store are putting users at risk. Essentially, these apps use your authentication method to steal your Facebook account login details.
These applications are considered trojans and in total have accumulated nearly 6 million downloads. After the company reported it to Google, it was eventually removed from the Play Store. However, if you have anything installed on your smartphone, you will need to remove it manually.
How These Android Apps Steal Your Facebook Data
The process applied in these malicious apps is very simple, which ends up deceiving millions of users. Essentially, when the user chooses the option to sign in with Facebook, the app opens a legitimate web page for the user to enter their data.
However, this page ends with a JavaScript startup that steals the user’s information, and immediately sends it to the hackers’ server. After logging in, the Trojan is still able to steal all the cookie information in the current browser session.
This personal information can then be used by hackers to carry out a large number of attacks on users.
