The ministry said in a statement that the piece “can be used normally and safely.” However, the file said in the statement that only a batch containing 2,880 doses of Janssen vaccine would have arrived frozen in the Federal District. “The shipment was examined and approved by the National Institute for Quality Control in Health (INCQS), after it was verified that the temperature did not affect the quality of the vaccine,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry of Health, the amount of frozen vaccines represents 2.6% of the total 109.8 thousand vaccine doses from Janssen, Pfizer and AstraZeneca delivered between Friday and Saturday to the Federal District. Earlier this Saturday, right after the vaccine shipment arrived in Brasilia, the Ministry of Health reported that Janssen vaccines arrived frozen after the central cold chain dosing conference, when they were found stored below 2 degrees Celsius.
The Secretariat informed the Ministry of Health, which directed the file to quarantine the entire load of vaccines, and then conduct an analysis of the possibility of using them or not.
The Janssen vaccine, from the Johnson & Johnson group, is applied in a single dose. The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved the emergency use of Janssen immunizing agent in Brazil on March 31, 2021.
