KTM Chief Mechanic Paul Trevathan was pleased with the performance and behavior of Portuguese driver Miguel Oliveira.
In the last three races, three podiums. Second place in Mugello and Sachsenring, the victory of Barcelona. In this period, no other rider has scored as many points in MotoGP as Miguel Oliveira (KTM). The performance of the 26-year-old Portuguese keeps him in the spotlight in the motorcycling world.
MotoSport magazine spoke with Paul Trevathan, KTM’s chief mechanic, who was delighted with the Portuguese rider’s performance. “Miguel is as soft as silk – when he chases Mark [vencedor do último GP, na Alemanha]He was very severe and did not make mistakes. We have never seen such a beautiful KTM on TV and it has been on TV so often in the last three races. He puts it where he wants it and the bike feels stable. Not because we reinvented the wheel, but rather with the driver and his talent.”
KTM didn’t get off to a good start in 2021, as I was surprised by the change to the Michelin front tire design. Miguel Oliveira scored just nine points in his first five races. Now, in just the last three races, he has totaled 65. “The good thing about Miguel is how things are set up, how he asks questions, how he wants to understand what’s going on with the electronics and also with the chassis. He added Trevathan.”
“We always hear about great drivers who understand things faster than others and I think Miguel has that ability. In the garage he’s so quiet you can’t believe it. He seems to have ice in his veins. The way he reacts to the track under stress is the same as shown in Box. He’s very focused and calm… He wants us to understand what he wants,” said KTM’s chief mechanic.
