Gerard Lopez, the majority shareholder of SAD do Boavista, has announced that he will buy Bordeaux, the French club announced Tuesday in a statement.
In the official memo published on the club’s website, Bordeaux said they still had to sign papers formalizing the purchase by the Luxembourg investor. It must be remembered that the shareholder of SAD de chess has already invested in other Ligue 1 teams in the past, namely in LOSC Lille, and was also the owner of Mouscron, in Belgium.
Thus, Gerard Lopez is trying to save Bordeaux, which is in debt after the former American owners left the club that finished 12th in the French championship last season.

“After long discussions in the past few days, an agreement has finally been reached between King Street, Fortress and Gérard Lopez to endorse the project undertaken by the latter.
The guarantees requested by the Board of Directors, which met this afternoon, were presented in the following hours.
These latter items met the expectations of Rothschild & Co, the club’s financial advisor, and special representative, preventing the club from being liquidated.
The resumption of Girondins de Bordeaux is subject to the completion of the usual contractual documents, after consultation with the representative bodies of the workers, and the confirmation by the DNCG of the possibility of the club continuing its prestigious history in the French League.”
