Publisher Square-Enix arrived at E3 with no fewer than six new games.
Guardians of the Galaxy (PC, PS5, Xbox Series)
Square-Enix has hit hard with a new Marvel game set in the Guardians of the Galaxy universe. Eidos Montreal has commissioned a very ambitious project. Deus Ex and Thief developers don’t plan to make the same mistakes as their game The Avengers. With no microtransactions, game-as-a-service or collaboration, the Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation is a single-player narrative game, which will be delivered in final form upon release. The developers turned to Dan Abnett, the screenwriter for several of the comics, to write the script for this indie game. And upon hearing that, Guardians of the Galaxy won’t be a comic book mod or cut-and-paste for the movies. The game will combine sequences of platforming, exploration and combat. As the Star Lord, the player will always be accompanied by his teammates, managed by artificial intelligence. In terms of gameplay, it looks very good: the combat sequences look very dynamic thanks to the Star Lord’s wrist shoe, all the characters have special abilities, and the player can activate a special ability using their voice. We promise the moral choices that will affect the game scene…
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series)
Another surprise of the night, the announcement of a spin-off of the Final Fantasy series by Team Ninja (Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden). Square-Enix has already entrusted the Japanese studio with an action-adventure game. The approach is very different from Square-Enix’s because this episode will leave the entire RPG side of the franchise to focus on the intensity of the battles. Stranger of Paradise is also darker and more mature than the other Final Fantasies movies released so far.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series)
Despite the mixed success of Marvel’s Avengers, Square-Enix intends to continue providing content. At E3, the publisher introduced a new expansion that will take players into the heart of the Wakanda universe and allow them to play as Black Panther. The extension will be available through August.
The Fall of Babylon: New Trailer (PC, PS4, PS5)
The fall of Babylon was actually revealed last year, but it remains very mysterious even today. The new adventure game from PlatinumGames has finally appeared with a game trailer that refers to a very dynamic game set in a fantasy world. According to the publisher, the focus will be on collaboration. Apparently, Sony signed an exception with Square for the release of this title, which previously wouldn’t see the light of day on Xbox.
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (PC, Smartphones)
Finally, it’s hard not to also mention the announcement of a new batch of the first six episodes of the Final Fantasy series, called “Pixel Remaster”, which – oddly enough – will not be released on consoles, but on PCs and smartphones.
