Queen Elizabeth II will honor those responsible for the AstraZeneca vaccine and other scientists associated with the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK, according to the annual honors list released on Friday.
Among the experts, who make up the 1,100 list, are Sarah Gilbert, one of the people responsible for developing AstraZeneca, and Andrew Pollard, who is responsible for clinical trials.
Gilbert and former director of the Vaccine Development Group at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Development, Kate Bingham, will receive the title of “Lady.”
In turn, Pollard and Peter Horby, one of the specialists responsible for investigations to develop treatments against Covid-19, will receive the title of “Knight” from the King.
The honor will be given to actor Jonathan Pryce, who plays the Prince of Edinburgh in the final seasons of “The Crown” on Netflix.
Former footballer Roy Hodgson and singer Lulu will be named “Leaders of the Order of the British Empire”.
The list also includes Manchester City footballer Raheem Sterling, for her commitment to racial equality in sport, and 21-year-old activist Amika George.
