An Italian woman woke up after being in a coma for 10 months and the first thing she did was ask about her mother. Christina Rossi, 37, was seven months pregnant when she had a heart attack in July last year and was admitted to a hospital emergency room.
The daughter Katerina was born by caesarean section, but everything did not go well. Rosie immediately fell into a coma because doctors suspected she had a brain injury.
According to her husband, Gabriele Socci, in statements to the Italian newspaper La Nazion, the first word the woman said when she woke up was “mama” (mother in Italian).
We weren’t expecting it, it was such a joy after so much suffering”, He said.
Her husband, 42, and her mother, Mirella, were always by Christina’s side.
In April of this year, Christina was taken to a clinic in Zirl, Austria, so she could receive specialist treatment while she recovered.
The costs of the operation and medication were paid in full through a crowdfunding page that has collected, so far, about 170 thousand euros. This amount will actually help pay for the portion of the neurological rehabilitation and physical therapy that Rosie has to undergo.
Christina and Gabrielle’s daughter spent several months in the hospital because she was born prematurely and suffered some injuries due to lack of oxygen during childbirth.
Christina made a lot of video calls with her family, friends and daughter to stimulate her brain and help reconstruct memories and the family and social context in which she lived.
The health professionals who accompanied her throughout this process consider it essential to create images of the family and the world.
