a Texas Republican Congressman-elect Louie Gohart asked during a hearing by the House Natural Resources Committee this Tuesday whether it was possible to change the Moon’s orbit, or the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, as possible solutions to combat climate change, according to reports. Watchman.
The outline around this question seems even more bizarre because Louie Gohmert didn’t ask anyone at NASA, but asks a US National Forest Service official.
“Could the National Forest Service do anything to change the course of the moon’s orbit, or the Earth’s orbit around the sun? This would obviously have profound effects on our climate,” Gommert wondered.
Facing the question, Jennifer Eberlin replied that she would “follow up” on the congressman’s question.
“Well, if I can figure out a way to change this at the National Forest Service, I’d like to know,” Gommert continued in his request.
While it seemed like an honest question, some analysts admit that Gommert intended to articulate the idea that climate change is a phenomenon caused by natural changes in the orbit of celestial bodies, and thus efforts to respond to climate change are pointless.
