Augusto Santos Silva says the arguments the UK used to remove Portugal from the green list are ‘invalid’
The minister distinguishes the Spanish case from the English case, after London removed Portugal from its famous “green list” just 15 days after it was included in its list of valid destinations.
“The two arguments the British authorities used to justify the fact that they removed Portugal from the Green List are invalid,” says Santos Silva.
“The Minister of Transport said that Portugal doubled the rate of positivity towards Covid,” he recalls. “Going from 1% to 1.2% is not a redundancy in any mathematics in the world.”
“Much less than the 4% threshold” for the European Center for Disease Control stresses Santos Silva. “1.2 is not double 1.”
“With regard to the presence of the variants of concern in Portugal, the case of the Nepalese variant was used. 12 cases were recorded in Portugal. There are 78 cases of the Indian variant, of which 12 are of this mutation. There is no study showing that full vaccination is not effective in combating all mutations. and the variables that have been identified so far,” the minister says.
