The decision of the British government to remove Portugal from the Green List of countries considered safe has taken the region by surprise. The mayors should ask for support for the merchants in Algarve who are now in a more difficult situation, ready to receive British tourists.
Algarve’s medieval community, representing the region’s 16 mayors, condemns the UK’s will. According to AMAL, “this is contrary to the efforts being made by European countries to allow the people’s movement and contribute to economic recovery”.
Furthermore, without understanding the implementation arguments, AMAL insists, “This result turns out to be a double optimism: on the one hand, it comes shortly after a positive expectation is created, and on the other hand, it has animated Algarve; One that has already been severely punished from the beginning. ”
Since the British government announced that Portugal would no longer be on the list of safest countries to travel to, many Britons have canceled their vacations in Algarve. For this reason, the mayors “urge the government to retain support for Alcarve’s merchants, as a way to minimize the impact of any obligations, and to postpone the process of reviving the regional economy.”
