Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister of Health in Paulo Afonso, a city in northern Bahia, Adoni Junior, reported the municipality’s difficulty in treating patients with the disease, in addition to the capacity of the beds. In an audio clip that is being circulated on social media, he talks about the current situation of the municipality.

“At the moment, we are seeing chaos in Paulo Afonso. I have no place to put a patient, I am running to make the beds today and tomorrow. I need support from everyone. Everyone who has inputs and medicines can help us, help us and send us to us.”
By a note, the municipal press office confirmed the authenticity of the voice and said that the material was sent to a group on a social network, where there are health secretaries from other cities in Bahia.
Also according to the secretary, the municipality has a whole family for Covid-19 patients.
Today, we have 455 active cases in Paulo Afonso. It’s very worrying, because our units are full. We have 14 ICU beds, and we have 10 packed semi-intensive beds. I ask residents to take care of themselves and take care of others.
According to the city council, a 10-bed intensive care unit will open at the Municipal Hospital of Paulo Afonso Aroldo Ferreira (HMPA), with a delivery date set for May 25. Another 23 beds for Covi-19 patients are expected to open on site after the unit is refurbished. This family has no delivery date yet.
