In an interview with Associação Paulista de Medicina (APM) president, Regional in Rio Preto / SCM, Leandro Colturato, Rio Preto’s Minister of Health, Aldenis Borim, spoke about the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19. The association released a video clip of the interview on the evening of Wednesday, November 12th.
Purim said that the third wave, today, is “unknown” as 100,000 people have already been vaccinated in the municipality and 70,000 have tested positive for the Coronavirus. “We believe that Rio Preto today has at least 150,000 people vaccinated,” the minister said.
He explained that the situation brings an expectation that the new wave “will not weigh” like the other two waves.
However, Purim said he believes that if the new wave is “overwhelming” like the second wave, the situation will be “very difficult” due to the lack of available inputs and equipment.
The secretary commented: “We have a structure that can accommodate more beds, but this combination of things will prevent the opening of a new family.” Purim is still talking in the conversation about vaccinating patients with comorbidities, implementing dialysis in urban areas, and evaluating the measures the city has taken in fighting the epidemic in these 14 months.
In March, due to the increase in cases in Rio Preto, and the high rate of hospitalizations due to illness, the municipality of Rio Preto issued a decree restricting permitted activities. Currently, the municipality adopts rules similar to those applied in the São Paulo plan, with greater time restrictions.
