MotoGP returns to action this weekend with the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, at the Red Bull Ring-Spielberg, where the Austrian Grand Prix, the eleventh round of the 2024 season, will be held.
This is a race with great emotions, with only 3 points separating first and second in the world rankings. Current leader Jorge Martin will be trying to rid himself of the ghosts that have haunted him since his controversial performance at the same circuit last year, while Becque will be keen to take the championship lead once again.
Last year’s Austrian Grand Prix was particularly eventful. Jorge Martin was handed a long lap penalty on Sunday, four hours after the end of the Sprint Race. In that race, the Spaniard was involved in a chaotic sprint into the first corner, with up to seven drivers injured, some of whom were unable to return to the track.
Pico had a flawless weekend, winning pole, the sprint race and the Sunday race, victories the Italian took with a comfortable lead over his rivals. Given this scenario, we can only expect a lively duel between the main contenders for this year’s title. Brad Binder was one of the stars of Spielberg’s film last year, taking two second places over the weekend, although he is now expected to face strong opposition from “the shark of Mazarrón” Pedro Acosta.
Another rider who will try to redeem himself in this year’s edition is the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira, who did not finish both races last year (sprint and main race), and it is he who achieved his first victory in motorcycles at the Red Bull Ring in 2020.
In the Moto3 category, the winner was Turkish rider Deniz Oncu, while in Moto2 it was Celestino Vietti, then ahead of Pedro Acosta and Ai Ogura.
The Austrian Grand Prix programme also includes the MotoE competition, whose winner last year was Mattia Casadei and who will be the first to take to the track next Friday.
SportTV4 provides live streaming of free practice sessions, qualifying and races, from Friday to Sunday.
