Brazil on Monday (10) signed the purchase of more than 100 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The purchase contract must also be signed by the company, this Tuesday (11).
The information was provided by the Minister of Health, Marcelo Quiroga, who referred to the time zone difference in the dates of the Brazilian government and US-based company signing. The CNN“I am working on getting enough vaccines for the National Immunization Program (PNI),” the minister said.
In doing so, the government has purchased 200 million doses of Pfizer. According to the delivery schedule, 35 million vaccines are expected to be received in September and the other by the end of the year.
This week, just over 1 million Pfizer vaccines were distributed.
On Monday, President Jair Bolsonaro established the Extraordinary Secretariat to Combat Covid-19, to implement measures against the Coronavirus. This area will be responsible for the testing program, that is, to test the population to find out how many people have contracted the disease. “It will not only deal with testing. All measures to deal with the epidemic will be coordinated by the new secretariat,” said Quiroga. The start of the program is what the government hopes to announce in the coming days.
After testifying for 9 hours against the Pandemia CPI, last week, Queiroga may be called in to speak again. He told CNN earlier that he was available. The purchase and arrival of more vaccines is an asset in the minister’s hands, while his statements on other controversial points, such as the use of chloroquine in Brazil, did not convince the CPI.
