the The cockpit voice recorder of the Voepass ATR 72-500 that crashed last week in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recorded conversations between the pilots about “giving power” to the plane minutes before it crashed. On the recordings, you can still hear screams on board.
The nearly two-hour investigation was carried out by a laboratory linked to the Brazilian Air Force. According to the newspaper Jornal Nacional, cited by G1, the analysis of the cabin audio recordings failed to determine the cause of the crash.
The audio transcript from the black box reveals that the co-pilot asked what was happening, after realizing the plane had lost lift. He then stated that it was necessary to “give power” to try to stabilize the plane and prevent it from crashing.
The recording ends with screaming and the plane hitting the ground.
The twin-engine ATR 72-500, which was flying between Cascavel and Sao Paulo, crashed at around 1:25 p.m. (5:25 p.m. Lisbon time) on Friday. All 62 passengers and crew died.
Among the deceased victims was a Portuguese woman. Gracinda Marina Castelo da Silva was 47 years old and was on board the ship with her husband, Nelvio José Hubner, a Brazilian citizen to whom she had been married for 25 years.
