Many Android smartphones come with Google’s Messages app as the default messaging app. However, Samsung has long insisted on using its own messaging app. But that’s changing now as Samsung has announced the end of its own messaging app and the switch to Google’s.

The information came via a Samsung Members post and was identified by analyst Max Weinbach (9to5GoogleHowever, Google Messages will now be the default text messaging app on Galaxy smartphones.
“Starting with Flip 6, Fold 6, and later, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded,” it can be seen in the screenshot. “Instead, Google Messages will provide a new and improved experience for expressing your emotions, making communication safe and fun.”
The notice also reveals that users can still download Samsung’s messaging app through the Galaxy Store. But it adds that “some features will be removed.” There’s no word on which ones.
Android expert and Android Authority contributor Mishaal Rahman noted that Samsung Messengers is still the default app on the Canadian and European versions of the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. This suggests that this change is currently rolling out to US devices.
This information comes after it was discovered that Google Messages heavily compresses images sent over RCS. In this regard, Samsung Messages was better. All because they are able to send uncompressed images over RCS.
However, Google is working on the ability to send much larger images via RCS in Google Messages, so it seems that this issue will be resolved in the near future. However, Samsung might have been better off waiting until this issue is resolved before abandoning its messaging app as the default.
