WMarissa Teague, 71, made history this weekend when she became the oldest contestant ever in the Miss Texas pageant. If she wins, she will represent the state in the Miss USA pageant.
According to NBC News, the organization of the Miss Universe competition recently changed the rules in order to make the competition more inclusive. Consequently, there is no longer a minimum age, married, divorced and pregnant women are now allowed to participate, and age limits have been abolished.
Marissa Teague decided this was her chance. The contestant hopes to inspire “women to strive to be their best” both physically and mentally. Tejo also ensures that women should “believe that beauty exists at any age.”
