Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the London close, the index was up 0.85%.
The best performers of the session on the index came from stocks JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON: ), which rose 5.09% or 6.10 points to trade at 125.90 at the close of trade. Meanwhile, stocks Fresnillo PLC (LON: ) added 4.44% or 24.00 points to trade at 565.00 at the end of the day, and Land deeds Group plc (LON: ), which advanced 4.43% or 27.00 points to trade at 636.50 at the close.
The worst performers of the session were stocks Ocado group PLC (LON: ), which declined 12.06% or 42.50 points to trade at 310.00 at the close. United Applications Group PLC ( LON: ) declined 1.64% or 16.60 points to 993.40 and EasyJet PLC ( LON: ) shed 0.88% or 4.00 points to 451.10.
On the London Stock Exchange, gainers outnumbered decliners by 1126 to 653, while 736 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ocado Group PLC ( LON: ) fell to 5-year lows; 12.06% or 42.50 down to 310.00.
Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.91%, or 21.25, to settle at $2.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for delivery in August rose 0.25%, or 0.20, to settle at $80.91 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in August rose 0.35%, or 0.30, to settle at $85.37 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.44% to 1.27 and EUR/GBP was down 0.12% to 0.85.
Dollar index futures were down 0.36% at 105.25.
