On Friday (14), Bahia received a new batch of 23,400 doses of the XBB vaccine against Covid-19. This vaccine is highly effective against the XBB.1.5 variant, which currently dominates cases and hospitalizations in Brazil and other countries. Distribution began to the municipalities that requested the replacement on the same day of delivery.
This is the second shipment of this type of vaccine to the country. The first, containing 72,000 doses, arrived on June 3 and was distributed to all 417 municipalities of Bahia. On this occasion, the doses will be directed to 60 municipalities that have requested more vaccines, including El Salvador.
The XBB vaccine will be made available in health centers exclusively for priority groups, such as:
- Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years
- Seniors aged 60 and over
- Residents of long-term care facilities
- People with weak immunity
- Indigenous people, riverbank, quilombola
- Pregnant and postpartum women
- Health workers
- People with permanent disabilities or comorbidities
- People deprived of liberty
- Prison system employees
- Adolescents and young adults in social and educational measures
- Homeless people
