One in four patients miss appointments and examinations scheduled by the Unified Health System (SUS). Pindamonhangappa. For some specific procedures, Absence rate reaches 44%. The data refers to the period between January and April of this year.
Of the 24,692 appointments scheduled for this period, there were 6,477 absences, which is 26.23%. Regarding exams and other procedures, 15,896 were scheduled, but only 11,922 people attended, representing an absence rate of 25%.
There are consultations for specific specialties and other procedures that record absences of approximately 50%, which means that two out of every five people do not attend on the appointed day.
The rate of people who were absent and did not call to say they were not going or who abandoned the procedure was 44% for ENT surgery appointments and 43% for vascular surgery appointments.
Regarding failure rates for exams, the ones that top the rankings are colonoscopy, spirometry, and ultrasound, at 44%, 41%, and 37%, respectively.
According to the city municipality, the high rate of absenteeism disrupts appointment scheduling, as well as patients who need appointments and professionals.
“Consultations and examinations are scheduled, we have a professional technical support team and a full network of services that accompany these procedures and the patient does not attend. This absence delays care for people awaiting the procedure. “It’s a waste of time for patients and health professionals,” says department secretary Silvia Mendes.
I can’t attend. what should be done?
Pindamonhangaba City Council has informed that it understands that unforeseen events may occur, but in all cases, it is necessary to report a withdrawal. In this case, simply inform the health unit where the consultation or examination will take place.
In this way, the patient’s name will be removed from the diary. The city municipality also informed that there will be no harm to the patient and that he will be able to reschedule the appointment or examination if necessary.
