Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update will include several new features, including a controversial new app. But PCWorld reports that the next major updates to Windows 11 24H2 will also remove three distinct apps you can currently use: WordPad, Cortana, and Tips.
Windows 11 24H2 arrives with the end of three major applications
Although each one has been discontinued, there are some specific details on how Microsoft will implement the changes. This change affects Cortana on Windows as a standalone app, but will remain in other apps like Microsoft Teams Display, Outlook Mobile, Teams Mobile, and Microsoft Teams Rooms. Of course, Microsoft is moving towards artificial intelligence with a full version of Copilot that will replace Cortana.

However, the Tips app content will continue to be updated with information about new Windows features until Microsoft removes it.
As far as WordPad is concerned, it will no longer receive updates and will eventually disappear. Microsoft recommends that users use Microsoft Word and Windows Editor to work with this type of document.
However, as of now, Microsoft has not provided a specific date when users can expect the app to disappear from their PCs when Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 version 24H2 arrive on their PCs.
Although these apps may not be used by many, it is still sad to see them disappear. This is especially true for WordPad, especially since it has been around since Windows 95.
The long list of disappearing applications affects both administrators, Windows professional users, and private users.
For example, VBScript is among the most popular programming applications on the list. It will later be part of the On-Demand feature with the Windows 11 24H2 Update and will be enabled by default. Microsoft will also remove this app in the future. Microsoft encourages users to use options like PowerShell and JavaScript, which it says are more in line with modern web development.
The next update will bring several changes and hardware requirements centered around SSE4.2 or Streaming SIMD Extensions 4.2. The Windows 11 24H2 update will also bring support for Wi-Fi 7, which is the latest evolution of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard.
