Lenovo has just announced two very special laptops: the Prosumer Yoga Slim 7x and the more business-oriented ThinkPad T14s Gen 6, which feature the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon Huge AI capabilities, portability and connectivity.
ThinkPad T14s Gen 6: The hard worker
I use the Yoga every day, but this time I’m going to start with the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 because it’s a ThinkPad and everyone loves a ThinkPad. The ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 may not be a ThinkPad like the others, given its hardware, but from the outside it’s a ThinkPad from any angle, thanks to its improved build and memorable TrackPoint keyboard. The Ctrl key has swapped places with Fn, but otherwise it’s pure ThinkPad: solid, corporate, and vibrant professional.
But inside, the differences are noticeable. Lenovo, Microsoft, and Qualcomm have teamed up to put together the Snapdragon X Elite, a 12-core processor, accompanied by up to 64GB of DDR5x RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The key to this ARM architecture processor is the integrated NPU capable of performing up to 45 trillion operations per second (TOPs).
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 includes advanced connectivity, including two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, plus an HDMI 2.1 port and an audio jack. Optionally we can have 5G connectivity, and for the rest we have advanced Wi-Fi 7.
In terms of displays, we have 14-inch units with WUXGA 16:10 resolution, in versions with or without touch, and even a more luxurious option with a 2.8K OLED display that includes Dolby Vision, HDR True Black 500 and 100% DCI-P3 spectrum coverage.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 will be available from August 2024, priced from €1,769 (plus VAT).
Yoga Slim 7x: Intelligence on the move
The Yoga Slim 7x positions itself in the category of consumers who care more about luxuries, offering as a base a 14.5-inch 3K PureSight OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and impressive features such as Delta E<1, 100% sRGB, 100% P3, DisplayHD True Black 600 VESA and Dolby Vision certified, making it a potential creativity engine for professionals on the go. The slim lines with rounded edges are a continuation of the aesthetic statement of yoga from recent generations, highlighting its simple elegance and luxurious feel.
The processor is the same as the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite with a maximum of 32GB LPDDR5X 8448MHz and 1TB of internal SSD storage. Lenovo also highlights the ThinkPad’s popular FHD MIPI IR camera and premium 1.5mm keyboard.
The first Lenovo phone with Copilot+ software
Both are light laptops, with the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 starting at 1.24kg and the Yoga Slim 7x starting at 1.28kg, a marginal difference, justified by it being somewhat larger and having a 70 Wh battery instead of 58. Watts per hour like a ThinkPad.
The spotlight goes directly to the Snapdragon X Elite, which promises a noticeable quantum leap in terms of performance for Windows on ARM. More important than simple performance is the huge increase in artificial intelligence capabilities. Both Lenovo devices come with Copilot+, which becomes a personal assistant at your fingertips and perfectly integrates all Microsoft 365 applications.
The collaboration between Lenovo, Qualcomm Technologies and Microsoft has further enhanced productivity, resulting in an extensive portfolio of more than a hundred enterprise software applications from independent software vendors (ISVs) optimized for native functionality on Snapdragon-powered Windows platforms. With an innovative approach and focus on mission-critical areas such as device management, collaboration, productivity, and chip-to-cloud security, the collaboration actively partners with cutting-edge, value-added professional software companies such as DynamoAIwhich uses artificial intelligence technologies designed to generate superior efficiency and protection.
The ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is specifically enhanced to provide businesses with more robust security, via AI-powered ThinkShield to make it easier to detect and remediate threats, in partnership with the Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit with Microsoft Pluton. IT administrators will appreciate scalable security solutions via Lenovo TruScale for easy fleet management.
