FAPESP Agency – Casa Ondina Lobo, a non-profit long-term care entity for the elderly, is open for registration for the online course “A Multidisciplinary Approach to Treating Depression in the Elderly,” which will officially launch on May 15.
With the aim of training professionals working in basic health units (UBS) and long-term institutions for the elderly (ILPIs), the activity is scientifically coordinated by the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). ).
The course will help healthcare teams effectively define, monitor and track personalized healthcare plans for seniors. This initiative is one of the phases of the 60+ Depression Support Platform project, which began in August 2020 and involved a team composed of specialists from the fields of psychology, gerontology, physical education, physical therapy, pharmacy, speech therapy, psychiatry and geriatrics. In formulating a protocol in partnership with the Center for Geriatrics at the University of the South Pacific School of Medicine and the Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology at UFMG.
Participants will have the opportunity to discover mental health prevention and promotion strategies, as well as access to more than a dozen video lessons covering the perspectives and contributions of the scientific teams from USP and UFMG and the interdisciplinary professionals involved throughout the project.
The launch event will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. virtually. Interested members of the public must register via location From Casa Ondina Lobo.
After the training is launched, a link will be provided for health professionals to participate in the “Multidisciplinary Approach to Treating Depression in Older People” classes. At the end, participants will receive a certificate.
The topics that will be covered in the meetings are: epidemiology and depression in older people; Challenges and strategies in identification and diagnosis; The pharmacological approach is initiated until activation in the treatment of depressive symptoms.
