ShA man who shot a burglar who entered his home to steal tools has been sentenced to six years and three months in prison in Ciudad Real, Spain. The man was also ordered to pay 96,000 euros to the victim's parents, in addition to 19,000 to each sibling.
According to ABC Spain, the Spanish Public Ministry initially requested a 12-year prison sentence for the octogenarian. The sentence was then reduced to six years after the jury heard.
The crime occurred in the early hours of August 1, 2021, when the man entered the rural home of the elderly man who woke up to the noise. After getting up, the convicted man saw a person about 15 meters away carrying a saw and other tools.
When he realized he was being robbed, the man, who had several weapons in the house, went to the area where the thief was and shot the attacker in the chest. A second bullet hit him in the back.
The thief, who had a criminal record for theft, ended up dying from serious injuries.
