There are several factors behind a season to forget
Before the Lions, Benfica had slaughtered São Martinho de Candoso. The Eagles defeated coach Oscar Rosas' team with a score of 16-1. But the truth is that the Guimarães team has not yet achieved any encouraging results. Their best of the season was a 4-1 defeat to the AMSAC. The worst in terms of the number of goals conceded were the defeats against Leis de Porto Salvo (19-4) and Elétrico (19-2).
The second division is the next stop, but before that this team still has five more matches to play in Liga Placard. Quinta dos Lombos, Belenenses, Torreense, Ferreira do Zêzere and Leões de Porto Salvos are the latest contenders in the Primera Division.
Average age is 21 years
Without the possibility of making major investments, Candoso turned to internally trained players. The team is therefore young, with the average age of the team being 21 years. This “lack of experience” ultimately helps explain many of the defeats. This is guaranteed by the club president. “We knew it would be difficult, but we never thought it would be so bad,” admitted Sergio Abreu, in a recent conversation with register (After the defeat against Benfica on February 29).
Promises that were never fulfilled
Youth could be one of the reasons for the failure of this futsal team, but the coach admitted to us some other reasons. He added: “Unfortunately, what happened was a lack of investment in the team. We had two or three investors, in practice, who supported the team’s budget and then left,” warning of the “astronomical numbers” needed to support the team. Participation in the main level of Portuguese futsal. “In terms of travel costs, we spend at least 700 or 800 euros per match,” Sergio Abreu added.
Now, we have to think about next season, says the manager. “We have our own pavilion, we provide good conditions for the athletes, and next year, we will try to gather some experience from what happened this year and with another strategy to attack the second division… to survive,” he revealed.
