Water wastage has been going on in the south of the country for 50 years
Drought has been an ongoing concern. CM Investigates learns that there are irrigation systems that waste thousands of liters of water every day.

Today at Investigação CM we highlight the south of the country, which is experiencing its worst drought on record. The farmers are on the verge of despair, but the Investigação CM discovered that there is surplus water being wasted into the sea in the Aljazur region. There are also irrigation systems that work even during rain. More than one billion cubic meters of water will have already been wasted.
If the water stored in the Algarve region is well managed, it will be possible to save about 15 million cubic meters of water. This saving will be sufficient to avoid emergency cuts that will be applied. Despite the alarming water shortage CMTV Circular garden and lawn irrigation systems have been discovered that work even on nights when it rains.
The prolonged drought in the Algarve region is worrying farmers, who fear huge losses due to interruptions in irrigation supplies. a CMTV I spoke with fruit and vegetable producers who feel discriminated against by the government. Some farmers are just hoping for a miracle.
Tourism in the Algarve region was subjected to a 15% water shortage due to the drought in the region. The Investigação CM was in two hotels where several measures are being put into effect to reduce water consumption.
