The United Kingdom is set to launch a scheme to pay influencers and public figures to stop migrants from entering the country, videos posted on social media site TikTok have revealed.
According to official documents accessed by The Times, the campaign is hiring influencers, musicians, artists and comedians. This time the target is likely migrants from Vietnam, Egypt and Iraq.
Previously, the British government had already used similar schemes on social media and, the same newspaper pointed out, the 'targeted visitors' were migrants who entered the UK by boat via the English Channel from Belgium, France and Albania.
According to the documents, it plans to expand the campaign to immigrants from Turkey and India. In total, the project will cost a million euros, and the idea is that public figures hired will establish in videos that crossing the English Channel is dangerous.
Influencers should also point out that anyone who enters the UK without documents risks being deported to Rwanda.
There is still no list of public persons to be hired, but a fee of 666 thousand euros has been established for everyone, with a maximum of 5800 euros for each person.
A Home Ministry source indicated that the documents in question were “out of date” and did not comment on the monetary values indicated. However, he confirmed that anti-immigration campaigns on social media should be expanded to Vietnam or Egypt.
The same evidence argues that the ends justify the means. “The tireless action we led reduced crossings by 36% last year. “We do not apologize for using all means necessary to stop the boats and save lives,” he concluded, as quoted by the English newspaper.
