The cities of Lisbon and Porto lead in the speed and coverage of 5G networks in Europe, according to a study issued by the Spanish company MedUX, which monitors and analyzes the quality of fixed and mobile networks.
Portugal is the only European country with two award-winning cities.
Porto has the best 5G coverage, which has proven availability at over 90%, a value well above the European average, which stands at 75%. In terms of more consistent speed, it was Lisbon that was ahead in downloading and uploading data. Lisbon's average download speed was above 537Mbps and upload speed was above 53Mbps.
The study also highlighted TopSpeed cities, with Lisbon and Porto among the group of winners, with speeds reaching over 700 Mbps.
MedUX conducted this study in the second and third quarters of 2023 in several European cities, to evaluate the quality and experience of using the 5G network in different countries. The cities analyzed were London, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Lisbon, Porto, Rome, Milan, Madrid and Barcelona.
The final report of the study will be released and awards will be handed out at the Mobile World Congress, which will be held from February 26 to 29 in Barcelona.
